3.3 V6 (VG33E) – E50

The engine has a sequential fuel injection system, two valves per cylinder head with self-adjusting hydraulic followers, forges steel connecting rods, one-piece cast camshafts and an aluminium intake manifold

Common Issues

The Nissan V6 set up includes 4 catalytic converters (cats). A pre cat and a main cat on each bank of cylinders. The problem with this set up, is that the front, pre cats disintegrate and block the rear main cats. This means the exhaust flow has no where to go but back into the engine, which can cause premature detonation of the engine block.

The best way to resolve this issue is to remove the problematic front pre cats. But as they are quite hard to get to, which means more expense, most people aim to remove the rear cats. The problem with doing this, is that when the front ones deteriorate, although it will not block the rear cats (they aren't there any more), they will still hollow out and cease to function which could be an MOT failure for emissions readings.

The 3rd option is to just get all 4 cats removed. This can be done with no negative impact on emissions if you also convert to LPG. LPG is a much cleaner burning fuel, and emissions are naturally a lot lower than petrol.
